Popularity of herbal is increasing globally. More efforts need to be directed towards methodological scientific evaluation for their safety and efficacy by subjecting to vigorous preclinical studies followed by clinical trials to unravel the mysteries hidden in plants. Hepatic disease stand as one of the foremost health troubles worldwide with liver cirrhosis and drug induced liver injury accounting 9th leading cause of death in western and developing countries. Liver is a vital organ play a major role in metabolism and excretion of xenobiotics from the body. Liver cell injury caused by various toxic chemicals (certain anti-biotic, chemotherapeutic agents, carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), thioacetamide (TAA) etc.), excessive alcohol consumption and microbes is well-studied. The available synthetic drugs to treat liver disorders in this condition also cause further damage to the liver. Hence, Herbal drugs have become increasingly popular and their use is wide-spread. Herbal medicines have been used in the treatment of liver diseases for a long time so the maintenance of a healthy liver is essential for the overall well being of an individual. The present review is aimed at compiling data on promising phytochemical constituents from medicinal plants that have been tested in hepatotoxicity models using modern scientific system....
Cancer is major health problem which severely affects the human population. Cancer is the abnormal growth of cells in our bodies that can lead to death. There is a constant demand for new therapies to treat and prevent this life-threatening disease. A huge number of bioactive constituents exists in many species of medicinal plants on earth that are considered to have less toxic side effects compared to chemotherapy but only a small percentage of which have been examined and continued to be an important source of anticancer agents because with the current decline in the number of new molecular entities from the pharmaceutical industry, anticancer agents are being sought from traditional medicines derived from plant kingdom having anticancerous properties. This article explores the various researches conducted to understand the medicinal value and properties of the plants for potential anticancer treatments....
Bryonia lacinosa (Family: Cucurbitaceae) is a familiar plant in Asian nation and one in all the foremost versatile medicinal plants having a large spectrum of biological action. This manuscript deals with extraction, phytochemical, physicochemical screening and pharmacognostic analysis of B. lacinosa fruit. Fruits were obtained from the native space of Sagar (Madhya Pradesh). It's usually referred to as Shivlingi, a superb plant within the nature having composition of all the essential constituents that are required for traditional and healthiness of humans. Fresh fruit and dried power of the fruit were studied by morphology, microscopy, preliminary photochemical screening and florescence analysis of fine-grained drug. Alternative physiochemical parameter conjointly meted out as per World Health Organization guidelines physical analysis the ash values, extractive values and wetness content were studied. This paper conjointly aims to illustrate the extract(s) of B. lacinosa by preliminary phytochemistry as quality control parameter. The results of these studies were helpful in correct identification and standardization of this stuff....
The plant Alpinia calcarata has been traditionally used for various diseases and traditionally indicated in the treatment of asthma. Hence, the present study was conducted to evaluate the anti-asthmatic activity of ethanolic extract of Alpinia calcarata rhizome against the goat tracheal smooth muscle contraction in-vitro model. Alpinia calcarata significantly inhibited histamine induced contraction of isolated goat trachea preparation as dose dependent effect indicating its H1 receptor antagonist activity and the primary phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavanoids, tannins and other constituents. Hence the present study concluded that the ethanolic extract of Alpinia calcarata rhizome possessed a significant (P<0.05) antiasthmatic activity against the histamine induced contraction in goat tracheal chain preparations models respectively....
Leea indica (Leeaceae), commonly known as ‘Huo Tong Shu’ in Malaysia, have been traditionally used as natural remedy in folk medicine by the locals. Leea indica (Burm.f) Merr is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine. Leea indica have multiple pharmacological activities like antitumour, analgesic, antiviral, sedative and anxiolytic and thrombolytic activities. It has long been used as a folk medicine for the treatment of cardiac diseases, diabetes, fever, headache, dizziness, soreness, eczema, sprain, leprosy, bone fracture, body pain, muscle spasms, diarrhoea, dysentery, antihyperglycemic and hypolipidemic activity. The current review attempts to encompass the available literature on Leea indica with respect to its phytochemistry, traditional uses and gist of its various pharmacological activities....
Traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurvedic, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) have been in practice in a great account. Owing to population rise, inadequate supply of drugs, prohibitive cost of treatments, side effects of several allopathic drugs and development of resistance to currently used drugs for diseases have led to increased emphasis on the use of plant materials as a source of medicines for a wide variety of human ailments as witnessed by the use of folk medicines in the present scenario. This review article describes the prominence of a medicinal plant Tamarindus indica L. in therapeutics such as use of crude extract of plant for the amelioration of various diseases, morphology, growth constraints, biochemical composition, biological activities. Considering the growing interest in the field of plant drugs assessing different pharmacological activity. In this review we have discussed about the therapeutic potential and chemical constituents Tamarindus indica. It is available all over the country. Tamarindus indica is having some reported activities like antidiabetic, hypolipidemic, hepatoprotective and antimicrobial properties. This plant is consumed by rural people as vegetable....
